Does Digital Transformation mean getting rid of legacy?

Not necessarily, but there is quite a bit of change management involved. For users of "legacy" this becomes a larger obstacle. There are ways of modernization of legacy systems, but the requirements should be the driver of the technology that enables the goal. The technology does not drive the goal.
Preferable, but may not always be. Here are some reasons why organizations keep legacy:
1) The value-add outweighs the risk of not transforming
2) It is sustainable
3) Poses no/minimal(acceptable) threat to the organization’s GRC & Sec Posture
Time to get rid: When any one of the above is not met.
Fusion is the way to go. Digital transformation is necessary to be ready for the future. Meanwhile, legacy is a identifier. Fusion of digital transformation with a retro legacy touch can work as absolute differentiator.
Coexistence is the key. A flawless handshake between the two is important
Digital transformation does not necessarily mean getting rid of legacy systems. It can mean transitioning from paper-based or manual processes to digital processes. It can also mean upgrading legacy systems to take advantage of new technologies.
