Yes. This is somewhat normal.

I was the CIO for the Victorian Fire Authority during the 2009 Black Saturday fires in Australia.  This was a disaster never experienced before with many lives lost and properties destroyed.  The community relied upon critical information during that time.  In terms of information accuracy and timeliness the stakes were very high.  As a result, there was significant media attention not only for the information we supplied but also measuring (judging) our performance.

Not sure if this would count as 'major media attention', but I am a Co-Founder of a Tech Start-Up, named ZinnoX; and we were awarded the honor of "Top 30 Most Innovative Start Ups of Bengaluru" at the Tech Summit Bangalore in December 2019, by the Chief Minister for the Karnataka State which was a major honor and gained widespread media attention. This fueled several interviews for us and helped us earn a feature on "Innovate Bengaluru" an AR Augmented media product. This also helped us get selected for an acceleration program from Robert Bosch, in which we won Top 3 honors in the final round for our crazy Innovative PenTesting Reporting Automation Solution, (which I might add, also led to widespread media coverage and attention) in March 2020, just before the pandemic hit and the country went into lockdown.

I worked for Clark County, NV in November 2020, which was interesting. Not only was the pandemic happening, it was also an election year. It was a very stressful time because we were serving over 120 different locations where we had voting equipment and things had to work.

From a security perspective, I feel like if we made it through this tough election year in the middle of a pandemic, we can probably get through anything. As you can imagine, the nation was grappling with cyber activity happening at that time. We did a lot of preparation and planning. We did penetration testing with the help of third party partners. There was a lot of collaboration to make sure that we kept voters data safe and secure.
