How do you see IAM, more specifically the operational space including provisioning of access and various IAM controls (e.g. PAM / access reviews etc.) evolving in the coming years?

IAM is the digital identity for the employees; Without appropriate IAM any organisation can't have good governance.

Establishing a fusion team that gathers requirements, provides leadership, defines ownership, lays out guidance and sets reasonable expectations is on the rise.

well implemented and integrated IAM is a big help to strengthen security over any access...but although sounds easy and right thing to do, the onboarding process to IAM is lengthy and very often painful.

IAM will evolve and become more dominant in the coming years, the reason is that an IAM system has strong security, user credentials are authenticate against a database and ensures that the right people and job roles can only access the tools they need to do their jobs. IAM provides the capability to manage employee apps without logging into each app as an administrator. IAM systems can manage a range of identities including people, software, and hardware like robotics and IoT devices. IAM security is very strong, it grants only the appropriate level of access to the user, allows for narrow slices of access to be portioned out, i.e. editor, viewer, and commenter in a content management system.
