Sincere thanks for the comments about "excessive friendliness". It was a needed reality check to read that and realize that I am definitely guilty of this and it's not doing me, my family, or the organization any favors. Like just about everything, it's about finding the right balance and deciding where to put the fulcrum... and it's not often "right in the middle".
Absence of delegation of work & tasks
- No clear communication
- Not deciding
- Not delegating
- Ignoring Feedback
- Not developing others
- Being Inflexible
- Avoiding Difficult Conversations
- Not Leading by Example
Leadership mistakes like self-preservation and favoritism have detrimental effects. Self-preservation occurs when leaders prioritize personal interests over the collective good, hindering their effectiveness and creating a toxic environment. It leads to resistance to change, limited transparency, and a lack of accountability. Conversely, favoritism involves showing bias towards specific individuals, which disrupts fairness and lowers morale. Both errors can cause impaired team cohesion, decreased productivity, and high turnover rates. Good leaders balance personal interests and those of their teams, prioritize fairness, and maintain open communication. They understand the impact of their actions on organizational culture and use mistakes as opportunities for growth and improvement.
"I know it all" mindset, leading to a negative snowball effect of damaged relationships, lost learning opportunities, arrogance, resistant to change.
