I find practical marketing courses to be beneficial, as they emphasize listening to others and learning from their insights. It's important to identify champions who can help tell your story. I've used resources like Gartner for executive briefings, where we bring in experts to discuss specific areas like AI. This external perspective can be invaluable. It's not just about your internal voice; incorporating voices from business partners and external vendors can enhance the narrative and add credibility.

For me, the most valuable resource has been people. Listening to colleagues and stakeholders across the business helps me understand their challenges and enables me to tailor IT stories to be relevant to them. I also engage with peers in the industry, particularly through a network of Irish-based CIOs who meet both virtually and in person. These interactions provide a great platform for sharing and refining communication strategies. In terms of online resources, Gartner offers excellent material on storytelling techniques and aligning these stories with business imperatives. Additionally, understanding the strategic objectives of your own CEO can serve as a strong foundation for crafting narratives that resonate with leadership.
