It’s more important to the organization, although I’m not sure it needs to be the most important. As stated elsewhere here, good IT organizations need to do both.

This is a question of perspective. Some individuals from the leadership team believes that running the day-to-day operations is most important.
I believe that without innovation, we can't achieve our own goals and probably also not keep up with the markets.
We should first optimize daily operations and then focus more on innovation!
