Will there always be an IT department or is traditional IT dead?

It’s really a deeper conversation about the impact that enterprise IT has as it moves more and more into the business, but it's a trend. It's not going to happen overnight, but it will change dramatically for quite a number of customers, if not for everybody. One thing we know about tech is that it’s never static.
The IT department has the potential to disappear over some period of time, but not any time soon. The low-code, or no-code technology isn’t sophisticated enough that you can get away from having an IT organization. So it's more of a long term possibility. That being said, you have to find ways to effectively leverage IT.
There's always going to be a piece of IT, whether IT is its own department or gets wrapped up into the business. But I do have a bit of concern about that. I remember a thousand people tagged me in that Wall Street Journal article, “It’s Time to Get Rid of the IT Department”.
