COVID19 has caused an unprecedented WFH situation. What changes have you / your teams made that are likely here to stay even when things return to 'normal'? I.e. what is now a new normal for you?

I really can relate to your comment about speed. The way companies had to change speed is just completely unprecedented. Which tells you that when there is a will, there is a way.

Specifically IT organizations going forward, I do believe that cloud adoption will continue to accelerate. That will be very important. There will be support changes and there will be changes in multiple business processes. This is where IT organizations really need to look at their current portfolio and potentially reprioritize efforts. There will be no nice-to-have initiatives in 2020 or even in 2021.

Organizations will have to figure out how to potentially cut their budgets in the majority of companies, not all companies, and then reallocate some of the funds to must-have initiatives. And a lot of those initiatives will be focused on helping business units and business functional teams, change their processes and then use technology to enable those new processes.
We don't yet know what the new normal will be. We see some glimpses of change that's here to stay. I'm actually convinced that work-from-home is not going to disappear. It might not be as pervasive as it is now, because we're forced to work from home. But the virtual collaboration, virtual teams, this ability to work anywhere, anytime, any place is going to continue.
I also think that one-day trips to New York for a meeting, which I've done, will not happen again. Three day trips, which I've done to go to Europe, for a couple of meetings will not happen again. People here are going to be very discriminating when looking at travel, what can be accomplished virtually versus what absolutely needs to happen face-to-face.
Working from home as shown an immense increase in productivity, we will definetly test if we can maintain this over a longer period of time.
A daily scheduled Zoom working session so we can simulate the work environment we have become accustomed to has been quite helpful.
Less desktops, more VDI, more policy work on collaboration practices
There will also be this whole notion of agility and responding quickly. We look at automobile manufacturers that were able to very quickly retrofit their manufacturing kits to produce ventilators in place of cars. Walmart is hiring so many people that they created an app that makes it possible for them to onboard their employees in 24 hours.
For all of you CIOs out there, how long have we been talking about streamlining the onboarding process for employees? The agility that comes from our crisis can create something pretty exciting.
