How did you manage the jump from being a manager to an executive? What advice do you have for someone becoming a “leader of leaders”?

Timelines and costs grow
Meaning initially I needed to get one thing done in hours for thousands of dollars by myself

Then multiple things done in weeks for tens of thousands $$

Eventually you get to 1-2-3 year projects and strategies worth millions impacting the entire company

Your thinking gets more and more strategic with more at risk but also greater opportunities

Try to listen closely to the leaders 2-3 layers up. What factors make them successful? Which ones failed and were ousted and how do you think they operated differently ? Was it a focus on profit, reduced expenses, efficiency?

Each company will be different but frequently the top leaders have similar skills and characteristics you can work to improve

One learning I had was that “What used to make you successful and brought you to where you are are not necessarily that same attributes that will help you forwards” The scope of an executive and manager are very different. Important to identify the key success factors are required in the new role and ask how to achieve it.
