It’s all depends on how large the environment and what’s in the scope for decommission. For a 100 racks environment, including scraping the disks, recycling the cabling to decommissioning the HVAC and DC floor takes around 2 months.

The timeline for decommissioning legacy data systems post-cloud migration can vary based on factors like the complexity of the architecture, data volume, and specific business requirements. In my experience, the process typically takes several months to a year. Estimating the timeline involves a detailed assessment of the existing systems, mapping dependencies, and creating a phased plan for data migration and decommissioning. Thorough planning, testing, and a well-defined transition strategy will surely contribute to a smoother and more efficient decommissioning process.
