What is the importance of observability in any enterprise level application landscape having multiple applications being used for external and internal customers and deployed across multi-cloud deployments from on-prem to different clouds ?

Observability in nature is extremely important in any scale be it 1 app at a time or an enterprise landscape with multiple application. It only becomes more important in a distribute landscape where we need to correlate process movement between systems/application when u look at it in an operational lens. If you scale back to a higher level, you need the capability to do the "what-if" scenarios to see the impact of changing things in the path and trying to understand its impact. The more the diversity of the landscape involved, the importance of observability increase in a non-linear fashion. The observability is the one that is going to help understand the E2E posture and potential failure locations so that we can look for remedies.
When you’re running dozens of apps across multiple clouds with different teams and customers, observability isn’t optional — it’s how you stop flying blind. It’s what lets you actually see what’s happening in your system end-to-end.
What Good Observability Feels Like:
• One place for logs, metrics, and traces
• Dashboards that mix business + technical KPIs (so you see impact, not just data)
• Alerts that focus on what users feel, not just server noise
• Ability to trace a single request across services and clouds
• Easy access for devs, ops, and business teams — no gatekeeping
What It Gives Back to the Business:
• More uptime and faster recovery when things break
• Happier customers thanks to fewer errors and faster apps
• Developers spending more time building, less time firefighting
• Fewer nasty surprises and lower risk
• Proof that performance work is worth the investment
In short — observability turns a messy, complex setup into something you can measure, trust, and improve on. It’s not just tooling; it’s how you build reliable systems and make better decisions, faster.
