Someone posted “What are you most looking for from vendors that pitch you?” Also, someone posted “If a vendor sends you an Inmail through LinkedIn how do you react to it?” At GPI most peers would answer the former question with something related to pitching them how their product/service would fit in their company. And the latter question GPI peers said they would ignore 99.99% of the Inmails. So, my question would be what does the vendor have to say in the first Inmail so you don't ignore and reply?

We are considering implementing a process to provide our colleagues with a "backup" laptop to ensure business continuity in the hopefully unlikely event a ransomware attack would impact their hard drives. We have discussed everything from providing two systems, with one remaining "on the shelf" to having backups ready to deploy (which would include shipping for remote colleagues). Obviously each of these scenarios are without challenges and I'm curious if anyone else has implemented a similar process and would be willing to share some suggestions and/or lessons learned?

We are considering switching Linux OS patching from the current quarterly cycle to a monthly cycle. We expect this move to help manage non-OS vulnerabilities effectively within a month as it takes 3 to 6 months otherwise (as we club remediation along with OS patching to optimize server downtime). What are your thoughts, recommendations and what pros and cons do you see?

Does anyone have feedback regarding information technology metrics in higher education? Specifically, are there sources that cite benchmarks for investment in technology as a percentage of an organization's operational budget or ratio of IT staff to total staff? I've seen IT budgets as small as 1% and as large as 10%, depending on the industry and situation. I'm hoping to find any similar discussion for public higher education.
