After you’ve left your job and you’re entering a new CIO role, what relationships do you still maintain and "bring with you” to your new organization?

You keep the kind of relationships built on trust, open honesty, and real results. It's not just about getting along—it's about measurable outcomes and real support. You stick with relationships that can show they deliver value, like cutting downtime or speeding up innovation. You also keep close mentors or former colleagues around who are reliable for feedback, even when it's tough to hear.
How about doing a quick “Relationship Inventory”? Jot down five key contacts and the specific metrics or achievements they helped you achieve.
Good luck with your new job 🙂🚀
On personal level, I'll bring the ones that keep my feet on the ground: honest, pure and truthful peers that would pick you up when you're down and put a punch of reality when you're getting out of the road.
On the pro level, I'll bring the people who can do the work and help me to permeate my vision within the IT organization.
I would maintain all relationships with your peer group of CIOs, you may continue to reach out to them in your new role. I would also keep your advisors, and stay in touch with suppliers you had a good relationship with, especially if the product is used at your new job. I would also stay in touch with your old team.
Always maintain a good business relationship, that's the whole point. What you bring with you is the methodology on how to get along with people and how to leverage relationships to get your agenda done. I keep in touch with several people from each of my previous organizations, and you'll know who those folks are because efforts to sustain those relationships will be bilateral.
