We are currently undertaking a finance transformation at my company that is both technical and organizational in nature. The company operates globally and previously followed a regional structure. We have now transitioned to a more global model, which has required us to:
1.Adapt all of our reporting 2.Revisit many of our technical solutions to support management reporting and forecasting 3.Drive standardization across regional teams to enable a more global mindset and automation 4.Establish a new, globally focused FP&A Centre of Excellence (COE) to support the new structure
Some of the challenges we’ve faced include:
1.Budget constraints 2.Adapting our technical infrastructure 3.Building the right capabilities 4.Shifting finance teams from a regional to a global mindset 5.Managing change effectively—finding the right approach 6.Implementing changes at pace
Here are a few things I believe are essential for success:
1.Have a clear plan and vision 2.Ensure strong communication and change management support 3.Make sure you have the right capabilities—or recruit them 4.Stay closely connected with the business 5.Clearly demonstrate the benefits not just to finance, but to the broader organization 6. Ruthlessly prioritize—do a few things well rather than many things poorly
Happy to connect and discuss further if helpful.
I’m a Director in our FP&A COE.
