What are your go-to leadership development programs?

In higher education we have the MOR Leaders Program and we've sent all of my leaders through that. I don't know if we've done a good enough job of cascading that down to secondary levels. It's one of the things that we're struggling with. Some people want to lead but they just don't know how to say that. We're not making more slots above for them to hop into, but we can create slots below where we can bring in student workers or contract resources and give them the opportunity to lead.
As we go through our own version of the “great resignation,” there are still some creative ways that we can give interested folks an opportunity to lead. Part of what we're finding is that maybe they don't know how to vocalize it, so we don't yet know how to reach out to them and give them the skills and opportunities that they want.
I had a conversation with somebody once where I said, "You should lead people. You're just a natural leader." Their response was, "I don't know what that means. I never thought about it. Do I have to take a test? I don't know about all the HR stuff." They couldn't see themselves in that role.

In one of the first leadership programs that I got to participate in, my feedback was that most of these programs target either very senior leaders or your highest performing leaders. I remember sitting through this leadership class and thinking, "Wow, this would be amazing for all the managers. Why don't we do this? This would be even better for a first-time manager."
